Here are some things to recollect the following time you stay in a hotel-words directly from the mouth of a Front Desk Clerk - One ) We Front Desk Clerks can't read your minds! If you want a First Floor room, please request it, ( and NOT at check-in either ) otherwise we intend to allot you what's available! ( as in, a King non-smoking is just ANY King non-smoking, unless you request a floor ).Same goes for the scale of bed you want, whether you want a smoking room, how many beds you need in the room, etc...
Two ) Please don't act irritated when we need to interrupt your check-in to answer out ever-ringing telephones. If we had it our way ( trust us ) we'd only pander to the people who are standing directly in front of us.But it's the policy of our industry to never leave a telephone ringing, and percentages are YOU were interrupting a check-in when you CALLED to make your reservation, so please...Three ) Be patient! We're not superhuman! We won't answer our telephones, send a request to girl service, give you an in-depth outline of our town's entertainment, AND show you where the closest Wal-Mart is all at once! We try to offer you our full, complete attention, although not all check-ins ( or check-outs ) go smoothly without interruption.
Four ) Never expect to be given any specific room! We don't care how much you liked it the last time you were here, we won't move around countless reservations to accommodate you to one room of your preference just because you are asking. We wish to, but the rooms go at a first-in-first-serve basis. If you'd like a selected room in advance, book as far ahead as practical.
Five ) Don't scream at us when you get to eleven PM without a reservation and we have nothing left but smoking rooms! There's a reason folks make reservations in advance-and NO-You do not get a reduction just as the room turns out to be a smoking room. If you'd like to ensure we can accommodate you, call before arriving. It's less complicated on everyone that way, and if we are full, we're going to give you the telephone numbers of close by hostels who can accommodate you.
Six ) If you've a problem with your room, don't let us know at check-out! If your soap was uncovered, there was hair in the tub, you did not get 2 pillows, or your room just was not to your taste, the most suitable time to voice a complaint is as quickly as you have one! When you let us know at check-out that your stay was unsuitable, the best we will do is say sorry and have you complete a comment card. If you voice a complaint Right away , guess what? We will move you to a better room or send housekeeping to mend what's bugging you-and regularly times we'll feel justified in giving you a slight discount for your inconvenience. Moan at check-out and you inconvenience yourself and the reception desk as we can do nothing apart from jot down a note of it.
Seven ) we aren't your private servants! Most front desk staff at hostels Can't leave the reception desk for any reason! ( SECURITY REASONS ). That means, we will tell you where the ice is, but we won't get it for you.We are able to get you an additional key to your room but we can't bring it to you. Please respect this.
Eight ) If you leave an item in your room please don't accuse our staff of nicking it! For reasons Front Desk and Housekeeping can't work out, almost all of the things people say they left in their rooms is rarely recovered! Firstly, we aren't RESPONSIBLE if you leave items in your room.2nd of all, we don't appreciate being called burglars when those items don't turn up. Oh, and when you DO ultimately find the cellular phone you assert WE Lifted in your case, call us so we're going to stop hunting for it!
Nine ) don't think the person you made your reservation with or who checked you in last time recollects you. Trust me, when you have a line out the door and are checking in twenty-five folk in forty five mins, you don't recall anything but the workings of your job. Please don't be outraged when I have to be reminded your family name and when I do not remember if you have AARP or AAA or not and have to ask.
Ten ) let us know when you bring your pets with you!! And do not leave them be in the room! We may many of us be pet-friendly hostels, although not all pets and not in all rooms. Please don't bring your pets into the lobby-and for the love of the Lord God, don't leave the animal in the room by itself! Animals in unusual new places make noise and destroy things-I know this because this is what my dogs do-be answerable for your pets and their actions! ( Oh, and please tip housekeeping slightly better, too- most frequently a room that had pets in it must be put under upkeep and deep-cleaned before it can be hired out again ).
